WebQuests 2000
Achieving Content Standards with Technology in History, Science and Art is a one-week professional development opportunity focused on teaching history, science and art in grades 6-11 by applying technology tools in standards-based teaching and learning. The vast information resources of the World Wide Web can be harnessed to your teaching requirements and content standards with the WebQuest tools developed by Bernie Dodge. A WebQuest is an activity in which some or all of the information that learners interact with comes from resources on the Internet. WebQuests of either short or long duration are designed to make the best use of a learner's time (and connect time!) by being focused on a clear task.
You will learn essential elements of the WebQuest design; you will be guided to develop a usable model that activates students' thinking and helps them present their conclusions. Increasingly, powerful technology tools are placed in classrooms, and teachers are challenged to make the best uses of them to provide rich content learning experiences for students. With focused time and expert help, teachers can realize their visions for powerful learning.
Junior High and High School history, science and art teachers will learn to integrate technology tools from expert classroom teachers. Content standards and methods of student assessment will be addressed in each seminar. Participants will be guided through the process of developing technology-based teaching units in small seminars.
