| Standards: |
Students at my high school consistently struggle with oral and written research projects in which they study a global issue. The standards that address this challenge are: Language and Listening Standards, Grade 9 - Deliver an expository presentation 1) to arrange a clear argument in support of a thesis and related claims, including information on all relevant perspectives; 2) include visual aids by employing appropriate technology to organize and display information on charts, maps, and graphs: 3) anticipate and address the listener's potential misunderstandings, biases, and expectations. Deliver persuasive arguments (including evaluation and analysis of problems and solutions and causes and effects) by using rhetorical devices to support assertions and clarifying and defending positions with precise and relevant evidence. Deliver descriptive presentations by 1) establishing clearly the speaker's point of view on the subject of the presentation; 2) establishing clearly the speaker's relationship with that subject; 3) using effective, factual descriptions of appearance, concrete images, shifting perspectives and vantage points, and sensory details. Chronological and Spatial Thinking grades 9-12 - Research, Evidence, and Point of View: Students 1) frame questions that can be answered by historical study and research; 2) distinguish fact from; and 3) distinguish relevant and irrelevant information, essential and nonessential information, and verifiable from unverifiable information opinion in historical narratives and stories.
