2007 -- Week One: Physical Education
PE and LAVA
Our first week combined two really impressive sessions, one focusing on PE, the other on LAVA.
The PE session was officially designated: LAUSD
Leadership Institute: Instructional Technology for Physical Education. The
other: LAUSD –
Many of our participants are veterans of TTTC. They knew what to expect in terms of the workload. The newbies were somewhat shocked: You mean we have classes until 900PM? At night? Homework, too?! You gotta be kidding. The tongue in cheek comment from one of the instructors advised everyone to go on the 615AM hike to get the juices going so they would be ready for their leaning opportunities. As John Kwan, one of class managers described it, “ TTTC is like a buffet, you can take away as much as you want.”
Following is a sampling of the content “buffet items” available to the PE participants:
· Using the Fitness Gram Software
· Understand the Use of the Walking Test
· Using Gymnastics
· Disguising Fitness (Wonderful Topic Description)
· Using Dance
· Understanding the Uses of the GPS
· Digital Cameras
I hasten to add this as a sampling.
So the goal is to get the teacher back into their classrooms and apply all that they have learned. How is that goal is reflected in the daily curriculum at TTTC? The following page from the daily schedule illustrates this nicely:
