Where I've Been I was born in Alaska, but moved to Southern California when I was only seven months old. I grew up going to private Christian schools in Orange County and then Riverside County. For high school I was home-schooled, and then went on to attend Southern California College (now Vanguard University). After graduating, I accepted an adjunct professorship at Vanguard while pursuing my teaching credential. My Life as an Educator I was hired at Santa Ana High School for the 1999-2000 school year under an emergency credential; I completed my preliminary credential in December of 1999. After having a wonderful year at SAHS, teaching 9th and 11th grade English/ELD, I found it necessary to work closer to home (in Riverside, 1-1 1/2 hours away with traffic) and accepted a position teaching Language Arts at Santiago High School in Corona (20 minutes away, and no traffic). I love everything about teaching English/Language Arts and try to incorporate technology into the classroom whenever I am able. The most rewarding times for me are when the students get engaged in the reading and discussions. I have had success in having students generate questions for characters and then personally acting out characters from our reading. When I'm Not Working... I enjoy reading very much--mysteries, fantasy, and classics. This past summer my reading project was to read all of Jane Austen's novels, and I have enjoyed them very much. I am currently reading along with the Oprah's book club sponsored by the Corona library and the Corona-Norco branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW). The book club meets once a month to read one of Oprah's picks. I have enjoyed being apart of this lively discussion group. When I go to the movies, I enjoy watching comedy, comedy-romance, action, mystery, and sometimes suspense. When at home, I like visiting with family, swimming, playing with my cats, reading, and having barbecues. Web Sites I Like
