My Background...

I was born in Denver, Colorado on April 12, 1970. I have one sister who lives in Laguna Beach. Her name is Kris and is 3 years older than I am. I grew up loving to play tennis, swim, and snow and water ski!! To this day, I still love sports! I attended Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colorado, which is where I became interested in teaching. I remember taking an English Class where we tutored children from the Elementary school twice a week. It was a wonderful experience and from that point on I knew I wanted to be a teacher! In addition, I had wonderfully gifted teachers and an aunt (who is a Principal in Montrose, Colorado) who have inspired me and taught me so much over the years.

After High School, I attended Chapman University in Orange, California. Chapman is a small private University with an awesome teaching program! I graduated in May of 1992 with a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Education. I did my student teaching in the Fullerton and Santa Ana Unified School Districts. I decided to move to the Los Angeles area to teach in LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School Distict).

A few years after my teaching career began I met Daniel Hamman in a computer class at Cal State LA. He made me laugh continuously and had such a kind heart! We were married on September 4, 1999 in Newport Beach on a yacht with 100 family members and close friends!! It was the most memorable moment of my life!! Danny is also in Education. He teaches at Pasadena City College and coordinates the Learning Assistance Center.

My Life as an Educator

My first year of teaching I taught at Logan Elementary School in a 5th and 6th grade combination class. The district reconfigured and the 6h grade moved to the middle school, so I decided to move with them since I loved the 6th grade curriculum. For the past 8 years I  have been teaching at Thomas Star King Middle School and absolutely love it!

This year at King we are starting a Highly Gited/Technoogy/Arts Magnet and I will be teaching 6th grade English, history and reading. We will have lap tops for all of the students to use, so I am extremely excited and feel fortunate to be a part of this new adventure! I look forward to incorporating technology into the curriculum and assisting my students in learning the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century!

Other Educational Involvements...

My husband (Danny) and I facilitate workshops at Pasadena City College for teachers and the community members on using the Internet and Microsoft Office, and Inspiration. In addition there are a few families we assist with their home schooling through Gorman Learning Center .

Hobbies and Interests...

My favorite sports are tennis and skiing. I also really enjoy mountain biking, swimming, and hiking. One of my favorite things to do is traveling! My husband and I both love to visit beautiful and fun places. My favorite place so fa that I have visited is Maui, Hawaii and Monterey, California. I would love to some day visit Australia, Paris, and Switzerland!!
