The Process
To get
started, you must first establish your groups:

You will be assigned to a team of 4 students.

Choose one of the scenarios outlined on the task
page.

Divide up the research and design roles within your
group:
Graphic
Artist
Copy
Writer
Historian
Spin
Doctor
Once you have
selected a scenario and chosen a role, you are ready to solidify your group's
focus.
Brainstorm or outline your scenario so you have
a focus for your research. You may use the template handout help
you organize. Remember that each member of your group will write an article
for your brochure.
Next you
will begin completing your research and design tasks.

Click on your role in the menu above and research
the links there.

Take notes on all information that fits your scenario
focus. Remember to note the location for any primary sources you use.
After your
research and brochure design are completed, you are ready for group feedback
and realignment.

Review the research information in your group and
make sure it aligns with the four outlined focus areas for your scenario.

Review and critique the brochure design and select
at least four graphics for inclusion.
You are now
ready to write your persuasive articles.

Agree as a group on four aspects of the colonies that
will make up your articles.

Make sure that your topics aligns with the scenario
you chose to follow.

Review the research and write your persuasive article.

Write captions for your graphics and complete the
source
citation page for each primary source graphic or document you use.
Now you will
compile your work and complete your brochure.

Share your article with the group for feedback and
editing.

Finalize your articles in a word processing document,
making sure to cite any primary source material.
Assemble the brochure as a group, reformatting
documents or resizing graphics as needed to accommodate the principles
of good design.
